Founding Philosophy
SU first opened as Euimyung (Righteous Light) School in SoonAhn,
South Pyeongan Provice in October 10, 1906. The school was later taken over by the Joseon Conference Pastoral Training Center, the Joseon Theological Seminary, and Sahmyook Theological Seminary and grew into the SU we know today.

- As an educational institution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, SU’s mission rests on cultivating holistic intellectuals with a healthy mind, body, and spirit. The goal is to help students lead meaningful lives, first, as happy individuals and, second, as people who make a difference in the world for fellow mankind and nature through love and truth. Ultimately, the mission is to impart God’s love that all may taste of the everlasting life freely given through Jesus Christ.
- In order to carry out this mission, SU provides general education on the Bible and other essential studies as well as concentrated learning in various fields of study. SU aspires towards an education balanced in theory and practice and enables learning of the highest caliber in each academic field.
